Vintage Artisan Mature Lady Doll.

Doll is signed and dated.
A sitter, she sits about 10" tall and measures approx 20" laid out. See photos for clarification. This doll was found at an estate full of a variety of spectacular vintage soft sculpture, one-of-kind whimsical art and dolls.
Please look at photos for condition. There was a layer of grunge and dust I gently cleaned. You may decide to further revive her or leave her in a state of perfect imperfection. Minor discoloration/fading and light stains found due to age and general manner of keeping, but do not diminish the character or uniqueness of this handmade cigarette smokin' woman. Looking at you from behind a pair of hip glasses, she is loaded chock full of personality. Big velvet bag and polka dot dress. Slouchy socks, cheeks with potmarks and a toothy grin. There is a dark scuff on her hand that would not clean off... a "liverspot", if you will, she acquired over the years.  Hand on one hip and hunched over posture makes this endearing elder a genuine show-stopper.
Barbara Johansen Newman is the artist. If you are as enamoured by this edgy, elderly beauty as I am, I would recommend doing a quick search of her online. Her dolls are works of art reflecting her interest in puppet creating and soft-sculpture. She no longer makes dolls and works exclusively as an illustrator and painter.
Her dolls are stuffed with polyester fiber fill and their faces are made by needle modeling. They have hand painted, inset, movable eyes. Hair is made of assorted natural and synthetic fibers and is sewn on. Most surfaces and decorations are embroidered  or quilted by hand. The clothes are all specifically made and dyed or painted by the artist.
Please note that this is a collectible interior display and work of art.  It is not intended as a plaything for young children.
