VINTAGE CARL THIEME POTSCHAPPEL GREEN NEOCLASSICAL BACCHANAL BOWL HAND PAINTED

Description

RARE find.
This covered bowl by Carl Thieme Potschappel, Dresden, Germany is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or crazing. Marked with a blue N and crown.
The neo-classical design has satyrs, nymphs and putti (boy-babies).  Sculpted in high relief, the green background is marbleized. There are touches of gold on the plate rim, around the elaborate leaf pattern on the lid and on the lid knob. The bowl is hand painted (HANDMALDEREI) and probably dates to the 1960's. Lovely white porcelain with a pretty tone.
Sizes are approximate.
Lid is 3" high and has a 5 1/2" diameter.
Bowl is 4" high and has a 6 1/2" diameter.
Together the height is about 6 1/2" since the lid sits into the bowl.
Base is 3 1/4" d.
This is a heavy piece at over 1 lb. 10 oz.
