Description
Richard Klemm Dresden Hand Painted Courting Couple Cobalt & Gold Demitasse Cup CVery pretty porcelain demitasse cup and saucer. The cup has a hand painted Watteau courting couple scene framed in fancy gold gilt scrollwork. With an overall deep cobalt blue border to the outside of the cup and saucer. With gold gilt designs along the inside of the lip and outside of the lip of the cup and to the edge of the saucer. Fully gilded handle. The saucer has two smaller Watteau courting couple scenes framed in gold gilt scrollwork.Marked on the bottom with a blue crown over RK. This is an overglaze decorator's mark used by Richard Klemm in Dresden Germany, probably between 1888 and 1891 since it does not have the country of origin. The saucer has a gold gilt mark obscuring the original manufacturer's mark. If held up to a bright light, the original manufacturer's Hutschenreuther manufacturer's mark can be seen. Hutschenreuther is one of the factories that Richard Klemm was known for buying blanks from.
Has some very minor wear to the gilding, but otherwise excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
The cup measures approximately 2 7/8 inches wide including the handle x 2 3/8 inches tall.
The saucer measures approximately 4 3/8 inches wide.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
