    Description

    This porcelain
serving bowl is from the factory of Johann Gottlobb Nathusius, of Althaldensleben, Germany. There is some conflicting information about the factory, some sources say it made porcelain only from 1826 until 1847, other sources say it operated into the 1860's. This piece has a mark on the base of an underglaze blue N, with a line above. I found one source that states this mark was used before 1837, but one antique expert explained that the mark was used into the 1840's, and the bowls Neo-Rococo style is more fitting of the later date. Either way the bowl is simply gorgeous, with hand painted flowers in the center, and the stunning gold gilded flowers, leaves, and scrolls. The bowl measures approximately 11 7/8" long, 10 1/8" wide, and 2 1/4" tall. It is in very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, or damage. There is some surface wear to the gold gilding, but overall it has held up quite beautifully. It is a stunning piece of antique porcelain, and rare to come across pieces from the Nathusius factory.  Please see my pictures, and thanks for looking!
