This is a truly rare and spectacular doll by Gillie Charlson in the U.K. She is a Victorian child girl doll that is 24" tall and is made of wax over porcelain. Her features are incredible and the wax finish gives her a very human look, almost ethereal. She has glass eyes, and a very expertly done hand painted face, with feathered brows and lashes. Her arms, hands, legs and feet are also made of wax. Her body is ball jointed. Her clothing is all hand made and very well done and trimmed with antique lace. Her wig is a Victorian child's wig. She is wearing her original tag, which reads: Original Hand Made Wax "Gillie" Doll on one side, and "Only an original creation by G. Charlson carries this signature", followed by her address in Lancaster, England. This dollmaker is extremely well known, and her dolls rarely come up for sale. Their original prices are always in the thousands. I purchased this doll from a doll collector's estate. She had a very fine collection, and this doll was a top star in a showcase of her own.
