This whimsical apple faced doll is an updated version of the Appalachian folk art. Dolls heads are created from applecast, a permanent resin which will not darken or deteriorate. They are poured from molds from hand carved apple faces. Because pins were necessarily used in construction the doll cannot be considered a child's plaything.
Constructed with luxurious fabrics and many detailed elements. Dressed in a velvet robe that is trimmed in a fur that appears to be real (not certain) The tip of the hat is finished with an old brass bell and a tuft of wool. He is holding a book of magic. Brass bells dangle from the ribbon book marks. He holds a staff with a hooded bird in nest Underneath robes are real corn shocks.
