    Description

Antique Richard Klemm Dresden Hand Painted Chocolate Girl Portrait cup and saucer
    【Factory】Richard Klem(1869-1916)
Karl Richard Klemm founded a porcelain decorating studio in Striesen bei Dresden in 1869. The decorating style of Richard Klemm closely matched that of the Meissen factories . He often used a heavily applied style that focused on florals. Richard Klemm, along with Helena Wolfsohn, Karl Thiem, Ambrosius Lamm and Donath & Co., were among the most sought after porcelain decorating studios at this time. In the early 1880's Richard Klemm registered his mark, the "Klemm Dresden Crown". He merged his company with the studio of Donath & Co. in 1916. However the merged companies were subsequently purchased in 1918 by Hutschenreuther.
    【Date】Between 1891 and 1914.
【Size】The cup: 7.9 cm diameter/ 8.2 cm high (without handle). The saucer: 13 cm diameter.
【Condition report】Both are in excellent condition without chips, cracks or repair. There are very slight wears to the gilding due to the age.
Dresden porcelain portrait cup and saucer by Richard Klemm. The cup is hand painted with the portrait of "Chocolate Girl", showing a chocolate-serving maid, the girl carries a tray with a glass of water and a porcelain trembleuse cup filled with hot chocolate.
The "Chocolate Girl" is a famous painting by the Swiss painter Etienne Liotard. The painting now hangs in the Gemaelde Gallerie Alte Meister in Dresden. The modeller Paul Helmig at the Meissen manufacture created the Chocolate girl around 1901 and is based on Etienne Liotard's painting.
The last picture is Meissen porcelain figure of the Chocolate girl. The second last picture is the original oil painting by Jean-EtienneLiotard (1702–1789).
