Description
This is a antique, ivory, hand painted Dresden bowl made in Germany. According to the backstamp, which is a blue crown and a gold rose, was produced between 1883-1916. This bowl has gold garland trim circling the bowl 1/4" from the top. It has one single flower circling the base of the bowl every 2 1/2". Not one of the flowers are the same. The middle is a bouquet of different flowers in all colors. This bowl has a diameter of 8 1/2" and a height of 2 1/2". It does have a tiny nick on the rim of the bowl. Please see photo above. Except for that nick this bowl is in unbelievably great condition considering the age. It has no crack. crazing or scratches or hairline fractures. The colors are vibrant and distinct. The price reflects the defect. In 1883, in response to the exciting developments happening all around them, four prominent ceramic decorators registered the famous Dresden blue crown mark, and the widely popular Dresden style was born; Karl Richard Klemm, Donath & Co, Oswald Lorenz and Adolf Hamman. So it is not the mark of one individual
factory, but an early example of a marketing brand dreamed
up by a small group of expert ceramic decorators. They did not
sculpt
or make the porcelain, they just painted it.
