41-1/2" L Newel Pillar Column Post Unfinished Stair Porch Remodel

Here is a wood newel pillar column post for stair or porch remodel projects.  I found it in my father's wood shop after he passed, but I am unsure if he made it or bought it.  He was always making things from wood.
I do not know the type of wood it is made of.  It is unfinished, and not stained.
It looks new, as though it was never used, but ebay would not allow me to list the condition as "new" or "new-like" in the required field, so I listed it as "used".  I don't see any cracks in the wood, but it does have a small notch in the wood at one end (shown in photos #9 and #10).  It is very straight, with no bow or bend to it.
The photos show it right after I cleaned the dust and cobwebs off, and still a bit damp.  The actual item is more light brown in color.
Measures (approx.):  41-1/2" long x 2-3/8" wide.
